Workers' Compensation Board Relief

Small, medium and large private sector employers can defer WCB premium payments until 2021.

Small and medium sized businesses will have the Government of Alberta cover 50% of their 2020 premiums when they become due in 2021. A small or medium sized private sector employer is an employer with $10 million or less in insurable earnings. Any payments that were made toward the 2020 premiums will be refunded to employers. Reimbursements will be processed automatically or owners may be contacted to confirm.

Large businesses will have their 2020 WCB premiums deferred until 2021, at which time their premiums will be due.

As a result of these deferrals, there is no interest charged on the outstanding amounts. Invoices will be sent out on or after February 2021 and will include the balance owing for 2020 and any new balances for 2021. No applications need to be made to qualify for this relief or for the 50% coverage of WCB premiums.
